Project Time Management

Project Time Management

Time is a dreadful resource to waste. It is one of the most valuable assets in your project available to you.

Project time management refers to a component of overall project management in which a schedule or timeline is analyzed and developed for the completion of a “Project Plan,” goals or deliverable. Project time management consists of six different interconnected steps.

  • Activity Definition - the identifying and scheduling of the different components of the project management sequence tasks that are required for completion of project deliverables.

  • Activity Sequencing - the process of project time management that defines the rank order in which deliverables must be completed.

  • Activity Resource Estimating - the identification and defining of the types and quantities of resources and materials required to complete a deliverable.

  • Activity Duration Estimating - the identification and estimating for the timeline completion of durables.

  • Schedule Development - the analysis of the order of those activities, timelines, resources, and schedule barriers or constraints to develop an accurate and achievable project schedule.

  • Schedule Control - the Project Management process to mitigate changes to the product schedule.

The project time management process is dynamic and requires input from several different interconnected teams each with their own individual project time management process in order to integrate the various interdependent component parts of the project to achieve the project deliverable.

You will learn about the concepts of float, lag, and lead. These aspects of tasks are important in order to calculate accurate project timeline variations and eventually the project completion time.
